With just four weeks until the New York International Olive Oil Competition, organizers are preparing for another record number of entries from dozens of countries in the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil quality competition.
Despite one of the most challenging harvest seasons in recent memory in many regions, as many as 700 olive oils will compete for the coveted Gold, Silver and Best in Class awards and to be among the best olive oils in the world, as the winners of the annual contest are known.
“We are extremely pleased that so many returning producers and first-time entries see how winning in New York can elevate their brand,” said NYIOOC president Curtis Cord. “Finding more ways to recognize the world’s best olive oil producers is what we do every day.”
A press conference announcing the results of the competition will be broadcast live at 6:00 PM (22:00 UTC) on April 15th through the NYIOOC website and syndicated through international media channels. Complete results will immediately appear on the official results website, bestoliveoils.org, with a striking new design that will be unveiled at the same time.
bestoliveoils.org is the second-most popular olive oil website in the world, behind Olive Oil Times, the main sponsor of the event. “The Best Olive Oils website has become the most trusted resource for people who want to find the year’s highest rated olive oil brands,” Cord said. “We’ve built new, useful features into a cutting-edge design to make it even more valuable for buyers and the producers of the winning brands.” The new site will go live at exactly the moment the competition results are made public.
The announcement of the results will cap an all-day conference at the International Culinary Center (ICC) in New York’s Soho neighborhood which will explore the “cultural context of olive oil and predictions for its future.” Speakers at the conference will include the fashion designer Norma Kamali, Lionsgate Entertainment founder and philanthropist Frank Giustra, Oldways president Sara Baer-Sinnott, ICC founder Dorothy Cann-Hamilton and many others.
Conference attendees will be the first to taste the newly-crowned NYIOOC winners at an awards reception hosted by the International Culinary Center immediately following the unveiling.
