The Egypt Agriculture Minister and Chair of the International Olive Council, Ezz El Din Abu Steit, opened the 53th meeting of the IOC’s Advisory Committee in Cairo on April 24 in the presence of several international observers. Georgian Vice Minister for Agriculture George Svanidze described the state of the olive oil sector in his country.
A project for removing plastics from the olive oil market was launched by representatives of the University of Jaén. Scientific speeches were given by the Heads of Units of the IOC’s Executive Secretariat, then the attendees had news on the Observatory, the new world olive oil documentation center.
The validity of the panel test for the organoleptic assessment of virgin olive oils was reaffirmed by the Advisory Committee, which stressed the need for additional time to strengthen it. A joint proposal is set to be submitted at next November’s session.
