Early entries have already been submitted at a fast rate and organizers said registrations will be limited to the first 1,000 brands, as last year.
The early registration period has begun for the 2019 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition during which producers, distributors and marketers can enter their brands at a discounted rate.
We are applying everything we’ve learned over the past six years to aim even higher for 2019.- Curtis Cord, NYIOOC president
The seventh edition of the world’s most prestigious olive oil competition will take place from May 5 to May 10 in New York City. Early entries have been submitted at a faster rate than ever before and organizers said registrations will again be limited to the first 1,000 brands, as they were last year.
Curtis Cord, the NYIOOC president, said there were a number of changes in store for 2019 including the addition of three more judges to 21 in all, extending the tastings to six days, a redesigned protocol and a larger venue to host the awards event on the evening of May 10.
“We are applying everything we’ve learned over the past six years to aim even higher for 2019,” Cord said. “As the harvest is only getting underway for many producers, we are already planning an event that will honor their dedication and resolve — a competition at the highest level that they deserve.”
Cord added that his team is also working on several initiatives designed to publicize the winners of the contest through new channels. “We never stop developing more ways to let people know these are the brands that need to be on the top of your list,” he said, adding that the effect would be to grow brand recognition and sales for the successful contestants.
The NYIOOC, held each spring in New York City, is the world’s largest olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is widely considered to be the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
The 2018 competition saw 1,000 entries from 28 countries participating — the largest variety of extra virgin olive oils ever assembled in one place.
The annual event is organized by Olive Oil Times.
Olive oil producers, importers and marketers can enter their brands on the NYIOOC Producer Tools portal.
