The New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) announced today the appointments of three panel leaders for the fourth edition of the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil competition.
Unlike other competitions where there is one panel leader, or head judge, the NYIOOC each year appoints three judges from different countries to lead the international team of experts that make up the elite judging panel.
The panel leaders for the 2016 NYIOOC are Carola Dümmer Medina from Chile, Konstantinos Liris from Greece and Fernando Martínez Román from Spain.
Top experts in their fields who exemplify the excellence of the NYIOOC panel.

Ms. Dümmer Medina is a food and wine industry expert who co-founded the Panel Cata Chile (Chilean Tasting Panel) and has served on the NYIOOC panel since the first edition in 2013.
Mr. Liris served as a director of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Messinia. A recognized expert in olive oil organoleptic analysis, he recently founded a consulting firm. This will be his third year at the New York competition.
Dr. Román is a specialist at the Instituto de la Grasa (Seville) and has published 19 scientific articles in olive sector journals. This will be Dr. Román’s third year judging in New York.

The panel leaders are among the fifteen distinguished experts who will evaluate over 700 olive oils from 25 countries next April, ultimately determining the best olive oils in the world for 2016.
The winning olive oils are coveted by chefs, food buyers and discerning consumers who value extra virgin olive oils of the highest quality. The results are presented on the website bestoliveoils.org and syndicated worldwide.
